For many Knoxville residents, the summer weather is all the more reason to hit the open road. This is particularly true for motorcycle riders, who enjoy a nice ride on a perfect summer day. Unfortunately, the increase in motorcycle traffic will also mean there will be an increase in motorcycle accidents, such as a tragic incident that recently occurred south of Knoxville.
The incident occurred when a 31-year-old driver of a large SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and struck four motorcycles. While all of the motorcycle riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, a 57-year old man and a 51-year-old woman were killed and four other riders were injured.
The accident occurred on a stretch of road that is known as one of the best riding places in the State. Some even consider it one of the best riding places in the country.
What's more, the tragic accident occurred during the middle of the national Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, which promotes safety and awareness for motorcycle riders. Other drivers are urged in the public awareness campaign to share the road and be on the lookout for motorcycles.
Accordingly, the accident is a sobering reminder that tragic injuries can occur for motorcycle riders, even when riders are taking necessary safety precautions like wearing helmets and when other drivers are being told to be on the lookout for motorcycles. While motorcycle riders should continue to do what they can to prevent accidents from happening, sometimes there is nothing they can do to avoid a terrible incident like the accident above.
In these cases, riders need to know what options they have for relief after the accident. The medical care and healing process is paramount when injuries are suffered, or when loved ones are killed, but individuals should also be aware of their right to collect compensation against the negligent driver to help aid in that healing process.
